New UPI Guidelines from 1 August 2025: NPCI’s Daily Limits You Must Know

UPI Rules Changing from 1 August 2025: What You Must Know

📈 Why NPCI Is Acting Now

In April–May of this year, UPI faced recurring slowdowns and outages during peak hours. NPCI discovered that excessive system-generated API calls—like frequent balance checks or autopay triggers—were bogging down servers.

What’s Changing: The Key Rules

💰 Daily Balance Checks – Max 50 per App

Users can now check their balance only 50 times per day per app. If you use PhonePe and Google Pay, that’s 100 checks total.

🔗 Viewing Linked Bank Accounts – Max 25 per App

You can only check which bank accounts are linked to your mobile number 25 times per day per app.

⏰ Autopay Mandates – Non-Peak Execution Only

Autopay will now execute only outside peak hours—before 10 AM, between 1–5 PM, or after 9:30 PM.

🧭 Transaction Status Checks – Max 3 Attempts + 90-Second Gaps

If a payment is pending, you can only check status three times, with at least 90 seconds between each check.

💡 Balance Notification After Every Transaction

Banks must now send you updated balance info automatically after each UPI payment.

How This Affects You: Everyday Scenarios

1. No More Endless Balance Refreshing

Instead of you checking, banks update automatically, cutting unnecessary strain.

2. Autopay You Can Trust

Your Netflix or mutual fund SIP will execute seamlessly during quiet hours—even if set earlier.

3. Smoother Transaction Fail-Safes

If you’re hitting “pending” status, a single refresh after 90 seconds should do the trick.
